Rocky, a Midwest pup, set a Guinness World Record for the longest tongue for a dog, measuring 5.46 inches.
The Illinois boxer, 9, is Brad and Crystal Williams’ cherished boxer, and they applied after learning of the death of the former record holder, Mochi.
Rocky’s owners were always aware that their dog had an unusually lengthy tongue, but it wasn’t until they learned about the record that they understood they had a chance.
“That’s when they said the new record was between three and four inches, and I said, ‘Oh my gosh, I think we have a shot, I have to look into this,’ ” Crystal told local outlet 25NewsNow.
However, the submission procedure was lengthy and time-consuming. Before entering the competition, the pleased dog owner said she double- and triple-checked her measurements. She remembers that the response took months.
“I talked to the vet, and he left me a message saying, I guess we’re measuring a tongue, and it was on!” she said. “That’s when it got exciting. We got witnesses, videographers, and photographers.”
Guinness dispatched their veterinarian, Dr. Bernard Bleem, to measure the boxer’s tongue.
“Rocky is a great dog, he really deserves this,” Bleem said.
In fact, Rocky defeated Zoey, the newly proclaimed champion, who accomplished the record earlier this month.
The Labrador/German shepherd mix, who is three years old, has a 5-inch tongue.
“It has been a lot of fun,” Crystal said. “It’s just fun to laugh at too, it’s like oh my gosh, look at his tongue!”
