75th Emmy Awards postponed: Another setback to industry due to strikes

The Emmy Awards have been postponed! In the midst of rumors that the Emmys will not telecast on their scheduled date, vendors for the event acknowledge to Variety that the TV Academy informed them that the date had been postponed. Since the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes halted production in Hollywood, insiders have speculated that the Emmy Awards will be postponed. The Emmys were initially scheduled on September 18, but with less than two months to go, organizers have notified all vendors, producers, and others involved with the event. The same is true for the Creative Arts Emmys, which were previously scheduled for September 9 and September 10.

This is the first time the Emmys have been postponed since 9/11

The Emmys have been postponed for the first time since 2001. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, shocked the United States. The Emmys were moved to November at the time. Also, the Emmys were a little underwhelming that year. A new date for this year has not yet been announced. The TV Academy is expected to reveal the new date for the Emmys in August. According to Variety, Fox plans to telecast the show in January 2024, while the TV Academy was pushing for a November premiere. At this point, a January deadline appears more likely, with the entire industry in disarray due to the strikes.

What the Television Academy has to say about the delay

“Like the rest of the industry, we hope there will be an equitable and timely resolution for all parties in the current guild negotiations. We continue to monitor the situation closely with our partners at Fox and will advise if and when there is an update available,” the TV Academy said last week in a statement. On July 12, the Emmy nominees were announced. While no presenter has been announced for the 2019 Emmys, Jesse Collins Entertainment will serve as producer.
