The Krypto Effect: Adoption Searches Skyrocket
As reported by The Warp, fans have been inspired by Krypto’s on-screen heroics to search for real-life furry companions. Google search data reveals dramatic spikes in dog adoption-related queries:
- “Adopt Dog Near Me” – Up by 513%
- “Rescue Dog Adoption Near Me” – Up by 163%
- “Adopt a Schnauzer” – Up by 299%
- “Adopt a Puppy” – Up by 31%
The heartwarming response illustrates the powerful influence pop culture can have on real-world behaviour, especially when it comes to four-legged heroes.
A Breakout Star from a Blockbuster
Krypto’s popularity is also driving some of the success behind Gunn’s Superman, which has earned over $220 million globally, making it one of DC’s strongest film openings in years. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts an 83% critics score and an impressive 93% audience score.
At the end of the film, it’s revealed that Krypto actually belongs to Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, and the duo is seen launching into space, teasing what’s next for the fan-favourite dog.
Krypto Will Return in the Supergirl Film
The loyal superdog is set to appear again in the upcoming Supergirl film, titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, directed by Craig Gillespie and based on the acclaimed comic by Tom King.
The film stars Milly Alcock (of House of the Dragon) as Supergirl, and follows Kara and Krypto as they assist a young girl on a quest to track down her father’s killer. The movie is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, and will also feature an extended cameo by Jason Momoa as the alien bounty hunter Lobo.
A Standalone Krypto Project?
Director James Gunn has hinted that Krypto may get his own standalone project, possibly in the form of an animated series or shorts—similar to Marvel’s I Am Groot.
Whether it’s through a dedicated series or future appearances in the DCU, one thing is clear: Krypto’s future looks as bright as a yellow sun.
