Who is Richard Simmons? The 75-year-old American fitness expert is battling skin cancer

Richard Simmons, the 80s fitness legend, has made headlines again after revealing that he had skin cancer. His fans got alarmed after he said he was “dying” on social media. Richard took to Facebook on March 20 to describe how he learned about the illness and the operation he underwent to treat it. He wrote, “Mirror mirror on the wall, what’s that tiny blemish? There was a strange-looking lump under my right eye. I had a tube of Neosporin that I would apply in the morning and evening… it was still there. “It was time to call my dermatologist.”

Richard Simmons encouraged his fans to live life to the fullest

“I sat in his chair and he looked at it through a magnifying mirror. He told me he would have to scrape it and put it under the microscope. Now I am getting a little bit nervous. He comes back about 20 minutes later and says the C word. You have cancer. I asked him what kind of cancer and he said. Basel Cell Carcinoma. I told him to stop calling me dirty names,” he added. Richard also revealed that he underwent a procedure where the “cancer doctor” had to “burn” his skin with a small instrument to “remove the cancer cells.” He wrote, “As he started burning my skin a tear dropped down my cheek. You can’t cry during this and he wiped my tears. The burning really hurt my skin. It lasted about 30 minutes.”

Richard Simmons stated that he was told to return in “an hour and a half” to determine whether the cancer had been successfully eliminated. After a while, he returned to the doctor, but the worst was not over; the doctor burned his face again and requested him to return. The comprehensive post came a day after he made a mysterious post claiming he was dying. He continued, “Oh, I can see your faces now. The truth is, we are all dying. “Every day we live, we get closer to death.” Richard then encouraged his admirers to live life to the fullest and “count your blessings and enjoy”.

However, Simmons posted an update on Wednesday informing people that the cancerous cells had been successfully removed.

“Well the third time was a charm. With a smile on [the doctor’s] face, he said, ‘We got all the cancer cells out.’ I gave him a hug.”

Simmons continued: “Before I left, he checked my arms, my back, my chest, and my legs. I had a little Frankenstein under my right eye for a while. He gave me some cream to put on it which I did religiously. Because of his fine work, I don’t have a scar. “
