The Twitter Tip Jar, released in May 2021 is the easiest way to receive payment or ‘tips’ on Twitter. It aims to support creators easier than ever before. The feature is enabled right next to your user handle as a tip jar icon. Previously it accepted payments via Bandcamp, Patreon, Venmo, PayPal, and Cash App.

“Tip Jar is an easy way to support the incredible voices that make up the conversation on Twitter. This is the first step in our work to create new ways for people to receive and show support on Twitter – with money,” explains the official statement from the company. Once set up, the followers can use it to support other users. The feature will be available in various regional languages.

“Twitter is working to allow you to add your Bitcoin and Ethereum address to your profile to receive tips via Tip Jar feature,” said Alessandro Paluzzi. Paluzzi is a developer from Italy. He also featured a screenshot that shows users how to get notified on getting tips via the social media platform. The Tip Jar will also use the lightning network to let users collect the bitcoin payments. Additionally, Twitter is using Strike for Bitcoin payments.

The new feature was confirmed by Kayvon Beykpour, the product lead for Twitter, He retweeted Paluzzi’s tweet with a ‘lightning’ and ‘soon’ emoji. Perhaps the feature is coming soon on the micro-blogging site. After all, this new development only highlights the craze of cryptocurrencies for payments and value exchanges. Bitcoin is currently trading around the $51,000 benchmark and Ethereum at $4,000.
