The IPL 2022 mega auction is just over a month away from now. According to the reports, the mega auction is set to take place in January 2022 with 10 teams in action from next season. The two new teams will participate from IPL 2022 – Ahmedabad and Lucknow. RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group bagged the Ahmedabad IPL team for Rs 7,100 crore, while Irelia Company Pte Ltd got the Lucknow IPL franchise for Rs 5,624 crore.

As per the BCCI’s retention policy for IPL 2022, the eight teams can retain a maximum of four players. The four players can be either two Indians and two overseas players or three Indian and one overseas. The list is to be submitted by November 30 before the IPL 2022 mega auction slated for next month.

The two new teams are allowed to finalize their 3 players outside of auction between 1st December 2021 to 30th December 2021. They can choose two Indian cricketers and one overseas cricketer outside the mega auction that is from the players that the other eight franchises released. There will also be no Right to Match (RTM) card this time around.

IPL 2022 likely to begin on 2nd April in Chennai

According to a Cricbuzz report, BCCI is planning to start the 15th edition of the IPL on April 2, 2022, in Chennai. The final could be in the first weekend of June, that is either on June 4 or 5, the report added.

“I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,” the BCCI secretary had said at the function.
