India lead WTC table with 14 points, Pakistan and West Indies tied at second

The Virat Kohli-led side is placed at the top in the latest World Test Championship (WTC) table with 14 points after a thumping 151-run victory over England in the second game of an ongoing five-match series.

The first match of the ongoing series between India and England ended in a draw that gave India four points. And the historic win at Lord’s earned them 12 points. However, the team has 14 points in total, instead of 16. England and India were fined two World Test Championship points each for their slow over-rate during the first Test. Also, both teams were fined 40% of their match fee by match referee Chris Broad.

Pakistan is placed at the second position in the WTC table with 12 points. After the recently concluded series between Pakistan and WestIndies ended in 1-1. West Indies defeated Pakistan by one wicket in the thrilling first test. In the second test, Pakistan defeated the Windies by 109 runs to level the series. WestIndies also has 12 points and is tied at the second position in the WTC table. England is placed fourth with two points.

England, India docked WTC points for slow over-rate

According to the WTC rules, teams cop one-point penalty for each over short. Under ICC regulations, players are fined 20 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. As per the new format, teams will be awarded a total of 12 points for each match they win. Six points for a tie, four for a draw, and zero for a loss will be awarded in this cycle. The teams will be ranked based on the percentage of points won. All nine teams will play six series each, three home and three away.
