India’s stand-in white-ball captain Shikhar Dhawan has completed 10,000 runs as an opener in international cricket on Sunday in the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Dhawan(86*), Shaw (43), and the debutant Ishan Kishan (59) were the star performer for India with the bat as India defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the first ODI. Batting first, Srilanka scored 262 runs with the late flourish from Chamika Karunaratne (43*). Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Deepak Chahar picked two wickets each for India. This was India’s ninth consecutive ODI win in Sri Lanka.

Records Broken by Shikhar Dhawan

1. Shikhar Dhawan completed 10000 runs in international cricket. By doing so, he became the second-fastest Indian and fourth batsman overall to achieve the record. Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Rohit Sharma are the other four Indian batsmen to have scored more than 10,000 runs as an opener in international cricket.

2. Dhawan also became the tenth Indian batsman to score 6000 runs in the ODIs. Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Mohammed Azharuddin, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag are the other nine batsmen who have scored more than 6000 runs in the ODI format.

3. Shikhar Dhawan is the fourth-fastest player to reach 6000 runs milestone (140 innings) after Hashim Amla (123), Virat Kohli (136), and Kane Williamson (139).

4. Shikhar Dhawan scored the second-highest score by an Indian on captaincy debut. Sachin Tendulkar tops the list with a score of 110 against SL in 1996. The next on the list is Ajit Wadekar (67), Ravi Shastri (50), and Ajay Jadeja (50)

5. Dhawan became the 25th player to captain Team India in ODI cricket.

6. Dhawan became the oldest player to make captaincy debut for India in ODIs. (35 Years, 225 Days). The second on the list is Mohinder Amarnath (34 Years, 37 days), followed by Syed Kirmani (33 Years, 353 Days).
