Man United star Cristiano Ronaldo accepts that he and his teammates cannot blame anyone else for yesterday’s hammering at the hands of Liverpool. He said Manchester United’s supporters “deserve much better than this”.

Man United was utterly humiliated by Jurgen Klopp’s side 5-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday night. Mo Salah, the star performer continued his stunning form for Liverpool and scored a hattrick to secure a memorable win. He became the first opposition player to ever score a Premier League hat-trick at Old Trafford. Also, It was only the second time in Ronaldo’s career that he’d suffered a five-goal defeat. The previous occasion was Real Madrid’s loss to arch-rivals Barcelona by the same scoreline in 2010.

“Sometimes the result is not the one we fight for. Sometimes the score is not the one we want. And this is on us, only on us, because there’s no one else to blame,” the Portugal star wrote in an Instagram post.

Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support. They deserve better than this, much better, and it’s up to us to deliver. The time is now!” he added

Solskjaer says Liverpool thrashing was his “darkest day”

Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Sunday’s 5-0 hammering at home to Liverpool was the “darkest day” he has had as manager of the club. United now has lost their last four games and is now eight points behind leader Chelsea. The Red Devils are now placed at seventh position in the Premier League. They will face Tottenham next week, followed by an away game against Atalanta in the Champions League on November 2.

“It is not easy to say something apart from it is the darkest day I have had leading these players. We were not good enough individually and as a team, can’t give a team like Liverpool those chances but unfortunately we did. The whole performance was not good enough. We created openings, they had chances and they have been clinical. The third goal decided the game,” Solskjaer said

“You can look at last season, we lose to Spurs (Tottenham Hotspur) 6-1 – this is worse, miles worse. This is miles worse for me as a Manchester lad. I’ve just got to say we have to get over this as quickly as we can.” he added
