Suryakumar Yadav to join India's squad for New Zealand Test series: Reports

Flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav is reportedly expected to join India’s Test squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand. Speaking to mid-day.com, a source said “Suryakumar will be making a comeback to the Test team. He will join India’s Test team in Kanpur from Kolkata.”

Previously, Suryakumar Yadav has received his maiden Test team call-up, and he along with Prithvi Shaw was included in the Test team for the England tour. However, both weren’t included in the playing XI for the 3rd and 4th Test matches. Currently, Shaw has been sent to South Africa for the three unofficial Test matches against the hosts.

Since making his international debut in March 2021, Suryakumar Yadav has represented India in 11 T20Is and three ODIs. In the 11 T20Is Suryakumar Yadav has played so far, he has scored 244 runs at an average of 34.85, at a brilliant strike rate of 155.4. In the recently concluded 1st T20I game against New Zealand, Surya smashed 40-ball 62. He was named Player of the Match for his terrific performance. The 31-year-old is uncapped in the longest format.

Ajinkya Rahane will be leading India in the opening Test match while Virat Kohli will return to lead the side in the 2nd test. The opening Test match of the series will be played from November 25 to 29 in Kanpur. Mumbai will host the 2nd Test match from December 3 to 7. The test series against the Kiwis is part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 cycle. This series will be the Blackcaps’ first of the 2021-23 cycle, while India started off on a high note leading by 2-1 against England.
