Virat Kohli on Thursday announced, he will step down as India’s T20I captain after the completion of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. He will continue to lead the Indian team in Test and ODIs.
“Understanding workload is a very important thing and considering my immense workload over the last 8-9 years playing all 3 formats and captaining regularly for last 5-6 years, I feel I need to give myself space to be fully ready to lead the Indian team in Test and ODI Cricket. I have given everything to the Team during my time as T20 Captain and I will continue to do so for the T20 Team as a batsman moving forward.” Kohli said
Virat Kohli took over as captain in the limited-overs internationals in 2017 after MS Dhoni stepped down from his position. He then led the team to the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and the semi-final of the 2019 ICC World Cup. This will be his first and last assignment as a captain in the T20I World Cup.

4. Since the start of 2017, Kohli has been the third-highest run-getter in T20Is overall.
5. Virat Kohli is the only Asian Captain to win T20 Series – in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and England.
6. The 32-year-old is the second most successful T20I captain of India with 27 wins. MS Dhoni has won the most T20I games (42) as Indian captain.
7. He is the only Indian skipper to win the T20I bilateral series in all SENA nations. Under his captaincy, India won 2-1 in South Africa in 2018, 2-1 in England in 2018, 2-1 in Australia 2020, and 5-0 in New Zealand in 2020.
