WTA Rankings: Naomi Osaka falls out of Top 10 for the first time since 2018

After 140 consecutive weeks within the top-10 of the WTA rankings, Naomi Osaka has slipped out of the top 10 in the latest WTA Rankings for the first time since winning the 2018 US Open title. She has dropped from 7 to 12th position in the WTA Rankings.

Former World No.1, Osaka pulled out of this year’s French Open and Wimbledon to focus on her mental health. She lost quickly in the Tokyo Olympics and then lost in the third round of the U.S. Open to unseeded Canadian youngster Leylah Fernandez. All these results, and her absence from the major competitions, have seen her fall to 12th in the latest WTA rankings, despite winning the Australian Open back in February.

A four-time Grand Slam Champion, Naomi Osaka revealed last month she was taking a break from the game to focus on her mental health. The Japanese star has not played a game since exiting the US Open in the third round last month. After the U.S. Open, Osaka said she planned on taking a break from tennis ‘for a while.’

Garbine Muguruza climbs to sixth spot, Ashleigh Barty remains at the top

Garbine Muguruza has climbed three places up to sixth in the rankings. She defeated Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in the final of the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic. Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu is ranked 22nd following her historic US Open victory last month. America’s Usue Maitane Arconada enters the top 200 after winning in California. Australia’s Ashleigh Barty remains at the top of the WTA rankings with 9077 points.
