WTC Final: Records that were broken during the IND vs NZ clash

New Zealand clinched the inaugural World Test Championship title. Chasing 139, the Kiwis got across the finish line with 8 wickets in hand. They beat a strong Indian side to emerge as the title winners in the WTC final. Ross Taylor and skipper Kane Williamson got the Kiwis across the finish line. They scored an unbeaten 96-run partnership for the third wicket.

Records broken in the World Test Championship final

1. Tim Southee completed 600 wickets in international cricket

Tim Southee completed 600 wickets in his International career during the 2nd innings of the WTC final. He also became the second bowler from New Zealand after Daniel Vettori (705) reach the milestone. Sir Richard Hadlee (589) and Trent Boult (504) are placed next on the list.

He achieved this feat after dismissing Indian opener Shubman Gill during the fifth day of the World Test Championship final.

2. Ishant Sharma highest wicket taker for India in England

Ishant Sharma picked up three wickets in the first innings for India in the WTC Final. He now has 46 wickets in 21 innings in England. As a result, he became the highest wicket-taker for India in England. Previously the record was held by Kapil Dev (43).

Likewise, Sharma now needs 16 more wickets to overtake Kapil Dev. By doing so he will become the most successful Indian fast bowler in overseas conditions. Also, in the first innings, he became the fourth Indian bowler to picked 200 Test wickets outside India.

3. Ross Taylor completed 18,000 runs in international cricket

Ross Taylor completed 18000 runs in International cricket and became the first player from New Zealand to reach the landmark. Overall, he is the 17th batsman to achieve this feat. He is the third batsman among active cricketers to achieve this feat with Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle.

So far Ross Taylor has scored 1,8050 runs in 443 matches including 40 centuries and 93 fifties. Sachin Tendulkar of India holds the record for scoring the most runs in international cricket.

4. Williamson breaks Fleming’s record

Kane Williamson became the second-highest Test run-scorers for New Zealand. He broke the record of former Kiwi captain Stephen Fleming of 7172 runs. As a result, only Ross Taylor is ahead of him in this regard with 7565 Test runs.

Also, this figure is the record for the best performance by an Indian bowler in the final of any ICC Championship. He broke the 38-year-old record of Mohinder Amarnath. Former India all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath took 3 for 12 against West Indies in the final of the 1983 World Cup.
