The event transpired in Hartford, Connecticut in 2020 according to the federal prosecutors.

Additionally, according to the reports, the heist took place when their leader bought an Apple Watch and linked it to his AT&T account. Back then, AirTags was not available. Hence, they relied on wearable tech. However, after keeping the wearable tech in the car bumper, they tailed the victim to a hotel parking lot in Hartford from Connecticut. “All of this information is supported by detailed cell site location data, including those from his Apple Watch and the phones of the defendant,” stated the report.

The thieves managed to track the car. They then proceed to smash the back window with a gun. However, they returned empty-handed. The following day, they managed to find the victim and overpower him.

They proceeded to steal his wallet, phone, and hotel keys. Moreover, one of them went to the victim’s hotel suite and stole a bag containing $500,000 in cash.
