Meet King Charles' mysterious bodyguard who's also a social media star

Today’s coronation of King Charles III will be the largest ceremonial event in Britain in seven decades. Following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September of last year, King Charles ascended to the throne of the UK and 14 other kingdoms. Millions watched the coronation at home, throughout the world, and many queued on the streets. His Majesty was accompanied by a security crew for the historic outing, something he inherited from his mother. Particularly, one team member has garnered a lot of social media attention. According to a Metro article, the unnamed bearded bodyguard was first noticed around the time of the Queen’s passing on September 8, 2022.

Last year, the guard was seen pushing down the phone of a woman who was filming the King. There were also multiple occasions where the officer told the members of the public to ”put [their] phones down” and ”enjoy the moment.” The monarch has since then been accompanied by the security guard to a number of his social events. Recently, numerous videos of him entering and exiting Buckingham Palace while carrying a luxury umbrella have also gone viral on TikTok.

Many have compared him to Colin Firth’s Harry Hart from the movie Kingsman and are referring to his umbrella as a “gunbrella” after suspecting that he possesses a gun that has been “disguised” as one. While many think he’s a secret service agent, others praised his fine looks and polished appearance. One user wrote, ”‘I love him he needs to be the next James Bond… such an amazing guy.” Another commented, ”He’s so handsome! Complete gent”. A third wrote, ”Does he give beard maintenance tips?”

The Metro said that a record 11,500 police officers were on duty to protect the coronation. Approximately 100 heads of state attended the event, along with sizable groups of onlookers, which security personnel spent months preparing for.
