Taliban update: Women in Afghanistan who go to college should wear niqabs and cover their faces

The Taliban has allowed women in Afghanistan to go to college. However, the new Talibani rule dictates women wear a niqab and completely cover their faces. Read to know all about this new rule for Afghan women attending university.

All about the new rule for women in Afghanistan

Women attending private universities across the country will now have to wear a niqab and an abaya robe. As per the new Taliban order, it is compulsory for women in Afghanistan to cover most of their faces. Additionally, this new Taliban order applies to all private universities and schools.

Additionally, the Taliban has also ordered only women to teach girls. However, if that is not possible, then universities “should try to hire old men teachers who have a good record of behavior,” said a spokesperson. The girl’s lessons will also end five minutes before the boys. This will ensure that they step out before the boys and the two groups will not interact.

“Practically, it is a difficult plan. We don’t have enough female instructors or classes to segregate the girls. But the fact that they are allowing girls to go to schools and universities is a big positive step,” said a professor who wished to remain anonymous.

New vs old Afghanistan

The new rules from the Taliban are changing the regular lives of people in Afghanistan, especially for women. Niqabs and burqas had disappeared from the regular lives of women in Kabul. Moreover, very few women were wearing them, mostly in smaller cities. However, the start of the Taliban regime is dead set on bringing them back to the streets of Afghanistan.

The order follows the Taliban’s declaration that girls can attend schools or colleges. However, they will not be allowed to sit in the same room with boys. After all, during the group’s previous rule, they did not allow women to sit in the same rooms as men, in public. As they have now allowed women to get an education, colleges, and schools have been instructed to segregate classes according to gender.
