What is GigaChat?
GigaChat is a Russian alternative to ChatGPT currently undergoing its initial invite-only testing phase. Major Russian lender Sberbank revealed the chatbot is a worthy competitor for ChatGPT. According to the bank, the Russian alternative can communicate intelligently in Russian, setting it apart from other Artificial intelligence (AI) based chatbots. While ChatGPT can converse in foreign languages, it can come with some discrepancies.
In recent years, Russia’s dominant bank has been investing heavily in technology. As per reports, the need for creating GigaChat stems from the country’s need to reduce reliance on foreign tech and imports. It described GigaChat as one of the “fruits” of its tech investments. However, reducing the nation’s reliance on exports has become a critical issue in light of the West slapping sanctions. Additionally, the chatbot developed by OpenAI has support from tech giant Microsoft. The chatbot has been sparing a race in the industry to make AI more accessible.
Russia is not the only one to develop alternative chatbot
However, Russia is not alone in nations developing its alternative to ChatGPT. China launched its versions of AI chatbots. Similar to Russia’s GigaChat, Alibaba’s Tongyi Qianwen, and Baidu’s Ernie are entering the market with the capacity to communicate in their region’s native dialect. Recently, Twitter owner Elon Musk revealed he is working on an alternative to OpenAI’s chatbot. He is naming it “TruthGPT“. He added that the chatbot is going to act as a “maximum truth-seeking AI.”
