Alec Baldwin hands over his phone for 'Rust' shooting investigation

Alec Baldwin has handed over his phone to authorities in New Mexico in relation to the ‘Rust’ shooting case. They are investigating a fatal accident on the set. Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot dead on the set of the film Rust in October of last year. While Baldwin, 63, practiced drawing a prop gun. The actor surrendered his device to authorities near his New York home, according to the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office.

As part of their questioning into the incident, Santa Fe County Sheriff spokesperson Juan Rios told the Los Angeles Times on Friday that the authority intends to collect data such as text messages and voicemails from the phone. A search warrant was issued for Baldwin’s cell phone last month. Baldwin’s lawyer, Aaron Dyer, told BBC partner CBS News that his client had handed over the phone voluntarily. “But this matter isn’t about his phone, and there are no answers on his phone,” Dyer said. “Alec did nothing wrong.”

Baldwin was preparing to bring out a prop gun when it fired while filming Rust. According to a lawsuit filed against Baldwin was not instructed to fire a gun. When he fatally shot Hutchins. Baldwin’s and the film’s producers’ actions were described by lawyers as “reckless.” And they were accused of failing to follow safety protocols.

Baldwin said he was working together with authorities, in a video posted on his Instagram account earlier in January. Explaining the procedure of administrations needing his phone for the warrant takes time. And they have to “specify what exactly they want.” Any indication that he was not acknowledging the search warrant was “a lie,” according to the actor. He went on to say in the video that he is “working toward, insisting on, and demanding” the truth about what occurred.
