Ana de Armas fans’ files lawsuit against Universal Pictures

Ana De Armas’ fans have filed a lawsuit against Universal Studios for the film “Yesterday”. Two fans claimed they were duped into renting the 2019 film because Ana de Armas appeared in the trailer. According to Variety, Conor Woulfe, of Maryland, and Peter Michael Rosza, of San Diego County, Calif., both paid $3.99 to rent the film on Amazon Prime. They later found Ana wasn’t in it after watching it.

$5 million in reimbursement

The lawsuit accuses Universal of deceitful marketing. The fans demand at least $5 million in damages who were hoping to see De Armas. De Armas portrays Roxane in the film. A love interest who meets Jack Malik on the set of James Corden’s talk show. The parts belonging to de Armas’ character, however, did not make it to the film. Richard Curtis, the screenwriter, said in 2019 that it had been a “very traumatic cut” because de Armas was “brilliant” in the role.

“Although defendant included the scenes with Ms de Armas in the movie trailer advertisements, to promote Yesterday and enticing film sales and rentals, Ms de Armas is not and was never in the publicly released version of the movie,” says the complaint filed in California on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

On behalf of all affected viewers, fans are expecting $5 million in reimbursement. Universal Pictures are yet to answer back to the circumstance. The fans claim the studio did deceptive marketing with Universal exploiting de Armas’ “fame, brightness, and brilliance” to do business. But in the film, she didn’t appear. The film tells the narrative of Jack Malik, a singer-songwriter. He hits his head and wakes up to find out that he is the only one on the planet who remembers the Beatles. By contending prestige for their tunes, Malik soars to fame.
