Britney Spears settles legal fee dispute over conservatorship with father

Britney Spears and her father, Jamie Spears have reached a settlement regarding their ongoing dispute over legal fees, marking the conclusion of a legal saga that followed the termination of the singer’s conservatorship.

The settlement, reached for an undisclosed sum in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, April 25, effectively resolving the conflict concerning fees associated with the conservatorship battle. The termination of the conservatorship in November 2021 was a significant victory for Britney, granting her control over her life once again.

“Although the conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly complete,” said Britney’s attorney, Mathew S. Rosengart. “As she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with the court or entangled with legal proceedings in this matter.”

Rosengart said that Britney’s freedom was achieved through legal battles, stating, “Britney Spears won when the court suspended her father, and Britney Spears won when her fundamental rights and civil liberties were restored.”

Jamie’s attorney, Alex Weingarten, expressed contentment with the settlement, highlighting Jamie’s relief at putting the matter behind him. Weingarten stated, “Jamie is thrilled that this is all behind him. He loves his daughter very much and everything he has ever done has been to protect and support her.”

The legal dispute over fees arose after Jamie was removed as Britney’s estate conservator in September 2021, ultimately leading to the termination of the entire conservatorship two months later.

According to The New York Times, Jamie had sought court approval for over $2 million in fees paid to multiple law firms during the legal battle, as well as payment for his current lawyer’s legal bill. The settlement now brings resolution to these outstanding conflicts, closing a turbulent chapter in Britney’s life.
