Fast and Furious 9 (F9), the ninth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, surpassed the $500 million mark at the global box office on Monday, according to Box Office Mojo. This would be the first Hollywood film to do so since the pandemic began.

To date, the picture has grossed a total of $500.30 million worldwide. The film has made $125.90 million in the United States.

This week, the film will be up against a formidable opponent in the form of Marvel Studios’ Black Widow. It is going to release in theatres throughout the globe on July 9. According to projections, the Scarlett Johansson-led MCU picture will debut at $90 million, breaking the previous record set by F9.

Fast and Furious 9 premiered in South Korea in May. Then, it was distributed in North America on June 25. Justin Lin, who has directed four prior films in the franchise, returns to direct this one. Also, Lin, Alfredo Botello, and Daniel Casey wrote the script.

Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, Kurt Russell, and also Charlize Theron are among the cast members.

F9 received mixed reviews from critics, earning a 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critical consensus reads, “F9 sends the franchise hurtling further over the top than ever, but director Justin Lin’s knack for preposterous set pieces keeps the action humming.”
