Best Supporting Actor winner’s shoutout to Jeremy Strong gets bleeped
Kieran Culkin, who won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, had part of his Oscars acceptance speech censored when he gave a shoutout to his former Succession co-star and fellow nominee, Jeremy Strong.
“Jeremy, you’re amazing in The Apprentice. I love your work, it’s f–king great,” Culkin said, before being bleeped.
A heartfelt—and hilarious—acceptance speech
The 42-year-old actor kissed his wife, Jazz Charton, 36, before heading to the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, delivering a speech that was classic Culkin—funny, unpredictable, and heartfelt.
“I wanna really—I love you, Jazz. This is—I have to thank my wife, Jazz, for absolutely everything, for giving me my favorite people in the world,” he said.
A promise about more kids
Culkin then shifted gears, recalling a deal he had made with his wife a year ago.
“This is—please don’t play the music because I want to tell a really quick story about Jazz. About a year ago, I was on a stage like this, and I very stupidly, publicly said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award, she would give me the kid,” he said, referencing his Emmy win for Succession.
He continued, “Turns out, she said that because she didn’t think I was gonna win. But then people started bringing it up to her, really annoying her, I think. I think it got to her.”
“I want four”
Culkin then shared what happened next.
“After the show, we’re walking through a parking lot, she’s holding the Emmy, we’re trying to find a car,” he recalled.
“Emily, you were there, so you’re a witness. And she goes, ‘Oh God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid.’ And I turned to her and I said, ‘Really, I want four.’”
His wife’s response?
“I swear to God this happened—it was just over a year ago—she said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’ I held my hand out, she shook it, and I have not brought it up once. Until just now.”
“No pressure, Jazz”
Culkin wrapped up his speech with a final message for his wife. “You remember that, honey? You do? Then, I just have this to say to you—Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you. I’m really sorry I did this again. And let’s get crackin’ on those kids. What do you say? I love you!”
Oscars 2025 winners
Culkin and Strong were up against Yura Borisov (Anora), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), and Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) in the Best Supporting Actor category.
Zoe Saldana won Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez, Adrien Brody took home Best Actor for The Brutalist, and in a major upset, newcomer Mikey Madison (Anora) beat The Substance star Demi Moore for Best Actress. Anora went on to win Best Picture.
