Marvel Studios alters release schedule amid ongoing strikes

Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and writers’ strikes, Marvel Studios has modified their entire release schedule. Several Disney+ projects have been postponed, including Season 2 of What If…? and the WandaVision spin-off Agatha: Coven of Chaos, now dubbed Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

Some of the MCU’s long-awaited spinoffs have been pushed back by a year under the newly reshuffled timetable. What If…? Season 2 will now be released in December, around the Christmas holiday. The show was supposed to premiere in early 2023.

According to THR, the delay was caused by Hollywood strikes as well as a general slowdown at Disney+.

Marvel packed 2023 with a bunch of new releases. Sources also revealed to THR, ”that Marvel wants to focus its efforts to make each title an event for fans and audiences. The studio has decided that spreading out its content is a more prudent strategy.”

The Wanda Vision spin-off series Agatha, starring Kathryn Hahn as the witch Agatha Harkness will be delayed next. The show was supposed to premiere in winter 2023, but it will now air in the fall of 2024, around Halloween.

The show’s filming was completed prior to the actors’ strike, which began in July. Aside from the release, the title has also changed. The show was first titled Agatha: House of Harkness, then renamed to Agatha: Coven of Chaos, and is now known as Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

Updates on Marvel shows

Echo, a Hawkeye spin-off starring Alaqua Cox as Marvel’s first deaf superhero, will now be released in January 2024, rather than November 29. All the episodes of the series will debut on the same day.

The animated series X-Men ’97, a revival of the original 1990s X-Men series, will be delayed next. The show, which was originally scheduled to premiere in 2021, will now air in early 2024.

Ten Korean independent films have been chosen for the Korean Cinema Today section of the Busan Film Festival.

Magneto, Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Storm, Jubilee, and Cyclops will all appear in the show, which has already been renewed for a second season.

Loki, one of Marvel’s most anticipated films this year, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 6. In August, the trailer for the Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson-led series Loki was unveiled, hinting at the mischief and joy that viewers will see in the Disney series Loki.

Other cast members include Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, and Eugene Cordero as Casey/Hunter K-5E.

Ke Huy Quan will appear in Loki Season 2

Ke Huy Quan, the Oscar-winning star of Everything Everywhere All at Once, will also appear as a Time Variance Authority archivist in season 2.

The continuous strikes have impacted other Marvel shows such as Ironheart, Daredevil: Born Again, and Wonder Man.

The continuing Hollywood double strike had a huge impact on the business. Since the actors joined the writers on the picket lines, the entire industry has come to a halt, and shoots and awards have been postponed indefinitely.
