The biopic of American singer-songwriter Madonna Louise Ciccone, better known as simply Madonna, has been canceled. Multiple sources told Variety that the film, which was supposed to star Julia Garner (Ozark and ‘Inventing Anna,’ will not go forward. The pop star herself was set to direct the film. Many Madonna fans speculated that the project was in jeopardy after the Queen of Pop announced plans for a tour earlier this month. Madonna’s tour will take her to major cities around the world, including New York, London, and Paris. The shows were quickly sold out.
The working title for the film was Little Sparrow. According to Variety, while Madonna is currently focused on her tour, she still intends to bring her life to the big screen.
The film was first announced in 2020. However, it quickly descended into development hell as Madonna struggled with two draughts of the script, which covered both her creative and personal life. Before Erin Cressida Wilson looked at it, Diablo Cody wrote one version. It was reported in June 2022 that Garner, who has three Emmys and a Golden Globe for Ozark, will play Madonna in the film.
