Your diet should consist of plenty of fruits and vegetables, especially deep yellow and green leafy vegetables. Fishes are high in omega-3 fatty acids. So, fish like salmon, tuna, and halibut can also help your eyes.

2. Avoid smoking

Smoking increases the risk of developing age-related eye diseases such as macular degeneration, cataracts and can damage the optic nerve. Therefore, try to cut down on smoking if you can’t quit right away. 

3. Wear sunglasses

UV rays from the sun can damage your eyes and raise the risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Hence, make sure to wear sunglasses every time you step out of your house. Use sunglasses that block out 99 to 100% of both UV-A and UV-B radiation.

Your phone, laptop, or computer should be positioned about an arm’s length away from the eyes and 20 degrees below eye level. This prevents your eyes from getting strained. Make sure that you have sufficient but diffused lighting in your room.

Every 20 mins look away from your screen at something that is 20 feet away. Blink 20 times to prevent dryness. Every 20 minutes, get out of your seat and take 20 steps. This is not just good for your vision, but also promotes proper posture and blood circulation.

Water is the holy grail to all the problems. Sufficient fluid intake is essential to your body’s overall wellbeing, including the eyes. If you’re hydrated enough, you prevent your eyes from getting dry and irritated.

 Even if you feel that your eyes itch, wash them with water. Rubbing it will do more harm than good because hands carry dust particles and can cause furthermore irritations.
