‘Doorway’ spotted on Mars in a new image released by NASA

The newly released pictures of Mars released by NASA show a cleanly cut ‘doorway” heading into a rockface. Here’s more on the picture taken by the Curiosity Rover.

What is the Mars doorway all about?

Explorer’s mastcam snapped an image on Sol 3466 (May 7). The grainy photo shows an opening with filed away rock. However, there is currently no official explanation from NASA about this ‘doorway’. But, this has not stopped people from debating it online. One social media user described the scene as “a formation on Mars which appears to be a portal and a wall nearby that looks artificial.” “Swear to God, there are at least five Martians camouflaged in there,” added another. One Reddit user stated that “It’s not a little door, it’s just a flat piece of broken rock”.

The Mars Curiosity rover is currently near Mount Sharp. The location is not very far from Gale Crater where the rover first landed. The rover has been surveying the area and its surroundings before it can start scaling it. According to a spokesperson for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the ‘doorway’ on Mars is a tiny crevice in the rock. As per their estimates, it is about 11 inches wide and 17 inches long.

The discovery of the martian doorway comes as the US Congress is holding an open hearing on UFOs for the first time in over five decades. Back in 2021, the US government released a report on ‘Unidentified Aerial Phenomena’ (UAP). The House Intelligence Committee’s Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Counterproliferation Subcommittee are tackling the matter. “The American people expect and deserve their leaders in government and intelligence to seriously evaluate and respond to any potential national security risks – especially those we do not fully understand,” stated Rep. Andre Carson. Carson is the panel chair for the committee.
