LeBron James placed in NBA's COVID-19 protocols, could miss several games

LeBron James has been placed in the NBA’s health and safety protocols and was ruled out for the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night. By this move, only two things are possible: James has either tested positive for Covid-19 or had an inconclusive result.

When asked about his vaccination status in September, LeBron James said: “I think everyone has their own choice to do what they feel is right for themselves and their family and things of that nature. I know that I was very (skeptical) about it all. But after doing my research and things of that nature. I felt like it was best suited for not only me but for my family and my friends. And, you know, that’s why I decided to do it.”

According to the NBA guidelines, if a player has a confirmed positive test for COVID-19, the NBA mandates a minimum of 10 days of isolation away from his team without any physical activity. After that period, a player must undergo a cardiac screening and reconditioning in order to be cleared to return to the court. A player who tests positive also could clear protocol by returning two negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests within a 24-hour period.

“We met early in the season or right around the day or two of that recommendation. Just to encourage and recommend the booster shot and the values that come with it. It’s an 82-game season. You’re going to have to deal with guys going in and out of the lineup. We’ve been without him some already this season. I feel like we’re further along with our cohesiveness now than we were the first time he went out with his ab strain. And we got to come in and compete and get a W tonight,” Vogel said.

Anthony Davis gives an update on the LeBron James COVID situation

Following the LA Lakers’ 117-92 win against the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday, Davis has provided an update on James’ COVID-19 situation. After the win, Anthony Davis told the media that he had spoken to LeBron James. He said:

“COVID is a scary thing, especially with all the new variants coming out. He says he’s good and is asymptomatic.”

James had missed quite a few games due to injury this season. The Tuesday game marks James’ 12th absence in the Lakers’ first 23 games this season. He missed 10 games because of injuries and another because of the first NBA suspension of his 19-year career. James is averaging 25.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists this season. If he will be out for 10 days, he would miss at least four games more.
