Records broken by Ishan Kishan with his maiden ODI double-century

Ishan Kishan made history by becoming only the fourth Indian to score a double-century in one-day internationals. The daring hitter reached the landmark in the third and final ODI against Bangladesh. He finished with the fastest double-century off 126 balls. Here are his statistics.

After losing the previous two games, India is looking for a consolation victory at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. After winning the toss, Bangladesh chose to bowl, and Kishan arrived to start alongside Shikhar Dhawan. The former, who warmed the benches in the first two games, came in for skipper Rohit Sharma. He finished with a 131-ball 210.

A terrific knock from Kishan

Kishan went after the bowlers right away and the scoring rate remained high.
While Dhawan (3) was out cheaply, Kishan teamed up with Virat Kohli, and the pair accumulated 290 runs for the second wicket. Kishan, the aggressor in the duo, scored his first ODI ton. He then transformed it into a double-ton (210).

Fastest double-century in ODIs

Kishan became the fastest batsman to reach the milestone, taking only 126 deliveries. He surpassed Chris Gayle’s 138-ball double hundred. Among Indians, Sehwag comes in second to Kishan, having reached the mark off 140 balls.

Kishan joins an elite list

As previously stated, Kishan is the fourth Indian batsman to score a double ton. He is joined by Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virender Sehwag. Notably, Rohit has three double centuries to his name, along with the highest score in ODI (264). Martin Guptill (NZ), Chris Gayle (WI), and Fakhar Zaman (Pakistan) are the other batters with double tons in ODIs.

A look at his ODI career

Kishan is playing in his tenth ODI after making his debut last year.  He now has 477 runs in ODIs, at an average of 53.  In addition to a double-ton, the southpaw has three fifties in the format.  With the ODI World Cup less than a year away, Kishan must take advantage of every opportunity.

10 sixes in an innings

Kishan’s amazing knock included up to ten sixes. Rohit has achieved this feat twice.

Joint-fifth-highest individual score in ODIs

Meanwhile, Kishan has the joint-fifth-highest individual score in ODIs, as well as the most against Bangladesh. He shares the achievement with Zaman, who struck 210* against Zimbabwe. Kishan is the third Indian in this group, trailing only Sehwag (218) and Rohit (264). He is also the youngest player in the format.

Third-highest partnership for India in ODIs

Meanwhile, Kohli and Kishan have the third-highest ODI partnership for India, with 290 runs. They surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja’s 275* for the fourth wicket against Zimbabwe in April 1998. While Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid (331) are at the top of the list, Dravid and Sourav Ganguly (318) are second.
