NBA players may soon lose to humanoid robots. A basketball robot managed to hit a three-pointer during halftime at the Tokyo Olympics. Moreover, the humanoid tossed it from the half-court line.
The basketball robot makes a historic shot
France vs US Olympic basketball match was historic. However, it is not due to the French men’s team pulling an upset against the US. Surprisingly it was due to an accurate humanoid robot that showcased Japan’s robotic fitness. The android basketball robot shot a free throw and made a three-pointer from beyond the half-court. Moreover, it made the shot and glid back to its spot. “Robots are taking free throws at the Tokyo Olympics,” tweeted the official handle.
What’s so special about this robot?
The robot is a CUE model curated by Toyota for the first time in 2018. Additionally, its 3rd model, the CUE3 holds the Guinness world record for the “most consecutive basketball free throws by a humanoid robot (assisted).” The robot holds the mantel with 2,020 free throws in a record time of 6 hours and 35 minutes.
However, it is not clear if the model showcased on Saturday’s game is a CUE3. Experts speculate it to be a CUE4, a fourth-generation model.
