Cyber security has been a major concern in recent years, with numerous corporations and governments falling prey to cyber-attacks. Everyone who has been impacted or is at risk of being impacted by cyber-attacks has been attempting to address the issue. A new cyber security research has warned that cyber attacks could represent an unprecedented threat in the next two years.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Security Outlook Report 2023 has projected that a “catastrophic cyber event” is on the road and will hit us in the “near future”. WEF executive director Jeremy Jurgens, during a presentation, claimed that “geopolitical instability makes a catastrophic cyber event likely in the next two years”. Jurgens stated that the prediction is based on 93 per cent of cyber leaders, and 86 percent of cyber business leaders. “This far exceeds anything that we’ve seen in previous surveys.”
When discussing cyber security, Jurgens mentioned a recent cyberattack that was intended to disrupt Ukrainian military capabilities but instead resulted in the shutdown of parts of Europe’s electrical generation.
Secretary-General of Interpol, Jürgen Stock, was also there and labeled it “a global threat”. “It requires a global response and enhanced and coordinated action. He asked a number of evil “actors” who profit from cybercrime to push international leaders to collaborate in order to stop all such initiatives.

Albania, one of the countries recently targeted by a huge hack, is now collaborating with larger friends to combat cybercriminals. Albania’s Prime Minister, Edi Rama, presented some startling statistics, claiming that if cybercrime were a state, it would be the third largest global economy after the US and China. According to Rama, the cybercrime industry was worth $3 trillion in 2015 and is estimated to be worth $10.5 trillion by 2025. Rama compared the projected hack to a virus like Covid-19 and how it might turn into an “apocalypse”.
“Let’s imagine an exponential multitude of viruses that mutate every day exponentially while not threatening our body, but the bodies we live in, our organizations, our countries, our system, then, you know, it could be just apocalypse. It’s about viruses that can not only block our way of living but can control it and deviate it.”
