Cashier-less store: Futuristic supermarket opens in Dubai

Technology is the future. One can see a glimpse of it at a mall in Dubai. As reported by AP News, the Middle East got its first-ever, ‘cashier-less store’ on September 6. Carrefour, a retail giant. Launched its first-ever completely technologically operated store. At a mall in Dubai.

Similar to Amazon’s cashier-less grocery store, launched in 2018. Carrefour mini-market too looks like our regular departmental store. The store has all the necessary groceries and supplies. What makes this special is the technology it uses. Customers having the app will be allowed to enter the store. Only after scanning the store’s app on their phones. The store has hundreds of surveillance cameras. 5 minutes after finishing shopping. The customers will receive an e-receipt on their phones.

“This is how the future will look,” said Hani Weiss, CEO of retail at Majid Al Futtaim. “We do believe in physical stores in the future. We believe, that the experience will change.”

Machine learning software combined with artificial intelligence has piqued the interest of retailers all over the world. The use of technology will help in bringing down the labor cost. This departmental store seems to be the latest addition in the field of retail automation.
