Instagram outage: App will now alert users when it goes down

The Instagram outage last week was a shocking surprise for many across the world. The social media giant is now testing a new feature that will alert users when IG faces a major tech issue. According to the app, the alert will pop as a notification in the activity feed when “people are in confusion and looking for answers.”

Don’t worry, you will know about the next Instagram outage

This new feature from Facebook, Instagram’s parent company is sensible. After all, the most recent six-hour-long outage created chaos for many. People first wondered if something was wrong with their internet connection or phone. Hence, when Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp fail in the future, users will know it. So, a notification saying “Don’t worry, it’s not you, it’s us” will avoid any confusion.

The social media giant will be testing this brand new feature for the next few months in the US. If it is helpful, the company will roll it out for users across the world. Facebook may also implement the feature on WhatsApp. After all, WhatsApp is the primary mode of communication by both individuals and businesses.

Account Status, a new Instagram feature

In addition to this feature, Instagram announced a brand new tool called ‘Account Status’. This tool will notify users if their content is reported. “We’ll start by making it easier for people. To know whether their account is at risk of being disabled,” said Instagram. “In the coming months, we plan to add more information to this tool. Giving people a better sense of how their content is being distributed and recommended across different parts of Instagram,” they added.

The social media giant plans to let users know things from them directly to avoid confusion. “When they impact engagement or distribution, we also know that it can lead people to think that the problems are unique to them, based on what they post. That lack of clarity can be frustrating, which is why we want it to be easier to understand what’s going on, directly from us,” wrote Instagram in their blog
