What is the Transgender Day of Visibility?

The Transgender Day of Visibility is an awareness-raising event founded in 2009 to commemorate the lives of transgender and gender-nonconforming people. Easter, on the other hand, varies from year to year due to the movement of the Earth and Moon.

US President Joe Biden has come under fire for designating Easter Sunday as the Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31, despite the fact that the two days coincide this year by chance.

The Transgender Day of Visibility is an awareness-raising event founded in 2009 to commemorate the lives of transgender and gender-nonconforming people. Easter, on the other hand, varies from year to year due to the movement of the Earth and Moon.

Transgender Day of Visibility is a day of celebrations and educational programs designed to raise awareness of transgender individuals.

Aside from 2024, the only other occasion Easter Day and Transgender Day of Visibility were observed on March 31 was in 2013, under Barack Obama’s administration.

Every year, Easter falls between March 22 and April 25. It is observed on the first Sunday following the Spring Equinox or full Moon.

While Easter is not an official holiday, many stores in the United States are closed that day. Easter commemorates Jesus’ resurrection, which occurred three days after his crucifixion. It also symbolizes the joyous end of the Lenten season of fasting and penance for many Christian denominations.

Biden’s 2024 presidential proclamation, announced on Friday, states that Transgender Day honors the “extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans.”

The declaration claimed that transgender Americans “deserve, and are entitled to, the same rights and freedoms as every other American, including the most fundamental freedom to be their true selves.” It further stated that transgender Americans “are part of the fabric of our nation.”

The president of the United States called on “all Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our Nation and to work toward eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity.”

The Biden administration also sparked outrage by prohibiting children of the National Guard from submitting religious Easter egg drawings for the 2024 “Celebrating National Guard Families” art event

While Biden praised his administration for increasing transgender rights, such as lifting the prohibition on transgender military service, he slammed Republican-led efforts to weaken transgender protections, calling them “bullying and discrimination”.

The Biden administration also sparked outrage by prohibiting children of the National Guard from submitting religious Easter egg drawings for the 2024 “Celebrating National Guard Families” art event. The tournament is part of the White House’s Easter traditions, alongside the annual Easter Egg Roll. This move sparked extensive controversy and discussion about the exercise of religious freedom.

However, children have been encouraged to personalize egg patterns with photos of themselves and their relatives, emphasizing specific experiences and hobbies.

Trump’s team hit back against Biden, saying in a statement that it’s “appalling and insulting” that he publicly declared Easter Sunday as Transgender Day of Visibility.

The campaign urged Biden and the White House to apologize to the millions of Christians and Catholics in the United States.

The Trump campaign’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, accused the Biden administration of a “years-long assault on the Christian faith.”

Biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy also criticized Biden, claiming that “declaring the most holy day for Christians as “Transgender Visibility Day” is a slap in the face to every American, whatever their faith.”

“Now the White House is banning any religious symbolism on Easter Eggs. We’re in the middle of a war in this country – and take it from a Hindu, that isn’t a “Christian nationalist” talking point,” he said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter. he stated in a message on X, formerly Twitter.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., criticized Biden and the White House for abandoning “the central tenet of Easter” and called the declaration “outrageous and abhorrent.”

Responding to the criticism, White House Spokesperson Andrew Bates stated that Republicans are targeting Biden in order “to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful and dishonest rhetoric.”

Bates targeted Trump, emphasizing that Biden celebrates Easter with his family and is committed to defending the dignity of all Americans, claiming that Biden will never use his faith for political or financial gain. He was apparently referring to the former US President’s $59.99 “God Bless the USA” Bibles.

Biden, who has been speaking about his Catholic upbringing, met with Pope Francis in the Vatican in 2021 and praised him as a “good Catholic”.

However, numerous conservative Christians oppose Biden’s political support for homosexual marriage and women’s abortion rights.
