After weeks of rumors about how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s story might impact the British royal family, the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan” debuted on Thursday. The OTT platform released the show’s first three episodes, which mostly focused on Harry and Meghan’s early years, their formative years, and how they met.
The pair discussed throughout the episodes how drastically changing Meghan’s lifestyle was for her to integrate into the royal family. Markle said how meeting Kate Middleton and Prince William made her aware of the reality of royal life.
“When Will and Kate came over and I had met her for the first time, they came over for dinner.” In Harry & Meghan, the couple’s brand-new Netflix docuseries that debuted on Thursday, Meghan said, “I remember I was in ripped jeans and barefoot.” “Like I was a hugger, always been a hugger,” she added. “I didn’t realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.”
“I guess I’d start to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside.” She went on to mention the several etiquette guidelines that the royal family adheres to on a daily basis. Meghan claimed she had been under the impression that they were only seen in public.
“There is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door and you relax now.” She added and said that she had initially believed that the royal family would feel more at ease in private. But that she had been mistaken because manners were observed even in private.
“But that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me,” she added.
“It’s so funny if I look back at it now because now I know so much.” She added about her knowledge of the insides of the Royal Family. “And I’m so glad I didn’t then because I could just authentically be myself without so much preparedness.”
