According to official media reports published on Thursday, North Korea has tested an underwater nuclear drone capable of unleashing a “radioactive tsunami” capable of destroying enemy naval vessels and ports. According to sources, the new weapon system was employed during the nation’s training from Tuesday to Thursday.
The nation blamed joint military drills between South Korea and the United States for driving tensions on the Korean peninsula to an “irreversibly dangerous point,” requiring Pyongyang’s forces to “gird themselves for an all-out war and bolster up its nuclear force both in quality and quantity on a priority basis.”
According to the KCNA news agency, the North Korean military launched a weapon system known as “Haeil,” or tsunami, capable of unleashing a “super-scale” catastrophic wave. According to reports, the North Korean drone cruised for 59 hours and 12 minutes at a depth of 80 to 150 meters (260-500 feet).
“This nuclear underwater attack drone can be deployed at any coast and port or towed by a surface ship for operation,” reported KCNA.
North Korea’s supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, “guided” the drills and stated that the exercise should serve as a warning to the United States and South Korea.
“He expressed his will to make the US imperialists and the South Korean puppet regime plunge into despair for their choice through the high-profile demonstration of the powerful war deterrence,” KCNA said.
Furthermore, KCNA said that North Korea launched cruise missiles with “test warheads simulating a nuclear warhead” on Wednesday. This exercise demonstrated additional military attack capability while also confirming the dependability of control devices and detonators in a mid-air explosion.
