A battlefield video from Ukraine shows a US-made MaxxPro armored vehicle withstanding multiple direct Russian blasts. Despite facing at least three powerful explosions, the vehicle successfully navigates a dirt track in the Chasiv Yar area of Donetsk Oblast, where intense fighting has occurred.
Endurance under fire
The MaxxPro, designed by Navistar Defense and Plasan Sasa as part of the US Military’s Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) program, has a “V-shaped” hull to deflect blasts and withstand various threats.
Rob Lee from the Foreign Policy Research Institute noted the vehicle was targeted with mortar and drone strikes, yet some soldiers managed to escape heavy artillery fire in a MaxxPro, while others were less fortunate.
Proven track record
The MaxxPro’s robust design has previously saved lives in Iraq and now proves vital in Ukraine. Last year, the US sent 200 MaxxPro vehicles to Ukraine as part of a military aid package. The MaxxPro’s durability is highlighted by incidents where vehicles were hit by shelling and mortars, yet the soldiers inside survived.
Stepan, a Ukrainian fighter, described the MaxxPro as nearly indestructible, emphasizing its crucial role in saving lives. Dutch open-source intelligence site Oryx has visually confirmed 90 Ukrainian M1224 MaxxPro losses, underscoring the vehicle’s critical presence and resilience in the conflict.
