During the crackdown on Gaza supporters, Israeli police arrested Arab-Israeli actress Maisa Abdel Hadi. Maisa posted something on social media that local officials call “incitement to terrorism.” Israel and Hamas have fought a military battle since the latter launched an offensive on October 7. Israel has been regularly bombarding Gaza since then. Maisa Abdel Hadi lives in Nazareth, a city in northern Israel. According to authorities, she was arrested on Monday and detained until Thursday. She is one of many Arab Israelis detained for posting about the war on social media.

Maisa Abdel Hadi allegedly shared an image of a bulldozer crossing the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel during Hamas’s October 7 onslaught. “Let’s go Berlin-style,” the Arab actress captioned the photo, referring to the collapse of the Berlin Wall, which divided Germany until 1989. Members of Israel’s Arab minority and Palestinians, according to rights activists and Israeli police, have been sacked, expelled from colleges, and jailed for expressing solidarity with Gaza inhabitants.
Arab Israeli singer Dalal Abu Amneh was also briefly detained this week over one of her social media posts. According to rights campaigners and Israeli police, members of Israel’s Arab minority and Palestinians in east Jerusalem have been fired, expelled from colleges, and arrested over comments expressing solidarity with Gaza residents since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. Israeli Arabs comprise a fifth of Israel’s population.
