Editorial Policy and Standards

What we do

BreezyScroll explains the news. When a story breaks, we answer the questions a reader is left with after the headline: what happened, why it matters, how we got here and what comes next. We cover mostly US news, plus world stories with global consequences.

We would rather publish one useful explainer than five rewrites of the same wire report. If we cannot add context, background or clarity that a reader cannot easily find elsewhere, we do not publish a full article.

Who is responsible

BreezyScroll is an independent digital publication. Editorial decisions are made by our editor-in-chief, independent of advertisers and commercial partners. Our editorial team is listed on the Masthead.

Bylines

Every article carries the name of the person accountable for it.

  • Desk bylines (for example, “BreezyScroll World & US Desk”) are used for stories produced by the newsroom. Each desk page names the editor responsible for it, and that editor reviews every story before it is published.
  • Named bylines are used when an editor has personally reported or written a piece. Their author pages list their background and how to reach them.

We do not publish under invented names.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help with research, to summarise source documents, and to produce first drafts. Every article is reviewed, fact-checked and edited by a named BreezyScroll editor before publication, and that editor is responsible for its accuracy. AI tools do not decide what we cover and do not publish anything on their own.

We do not use AI to generate quotes, invent sources, or create photorealistic images of real events. Any AI-generated illustration is labelled as one.

Sourcing and fact-checking

  • We rely on primary sources wherever possible: court filings, official statements, data releases, peer-reviewed studies, and on-the-record interviews.
  • When we build on another outlet’s reporting, we name and link to it.
  • Each factual claim must be traceable to a source the editor has checked. Numbers, names, dates and quotes are verified against the original.
  • We avoid anonymous sources. If we use one, we explain why and how we verified their information.
  • We make a clear distinction between reported fact, analysis, and opinion. Opinion pieces are labelled as such.

Updates and corrections

We correct errors quickly and transparently. See our Corrections Policy. When a developing story changes, we update the article and note the time of the update.

Independence and commercial content

Advertisers and partners have no influence over our editorial coverage.

Sponsored content is labelled “Sponsored” at the top of the article, is not written by our editorial staff, and does not carry an editor’s byline. Links in sponsored content are marked rel=”sponsored”. We do not accept payment for links in editorial articles.

Images

We use images we have the rights to: wire and agency licences, official handouts, Creative Commons images with attribution, and our own graphics. Captions identify what an image shows and where it came from.
