Food boards are popularly loved, easy to make, and a whole new experience. Read to know about butter board, the newest TikTok food trend, and a crowd favorite.
What is a butter board?
Butter board is the newest food board trend. It is built by spreading soft butter and paired with toasted bread chunks. The butter used can be plain or have flavors such as black garlic, cinnamon honey, lemon-basil, apple, etc. They are also ornamented with salt, nuts, fruits, edible flowers, honey, or even meat. After all, taste and presentation are vital parts of experiencing this TikTok trend.
The creamy delicacy comes from Joshua McFadden’s 2017Â book. However, the food trend took over Instagram and TikTok through Justine Doiron’s Instagram reel. The Brooklyn-based cook shared that she wants to make butter boards the next charcuterie board. “I used to do them for farm dinners where you’d have a bunch of different pieces of bread and spreads on the table. It was an opportunity to present butter and add fun, seasonal ingredients to it that made the butter more than the sum of its parts,” stated McFadden. Adding that they “should never taste the same,” he emphasized the various ways textures and flavored can be incorporated.Â
