Who is Salt Bae, the man who hounded Messi for pictures?

Salt Bae made a comeback after he kept pursuing Messi for a picture after the 2022 FIFA World Cup match. He was famous for uniquely adding spices. Several people were seen on Social media, acting like him. Nusret Gokçe, the 39-year-old Chef famously known as Salt Bae is the owner of several eateries sprinkled across the globe. He has outlets in London’s exclusive Knightsbridge and Los Angeles’ Beverly Hills. The Turkish chef’s business is booming and the exorbitant prices of the food are perhaps a result of his fame and notoriety.

Gokçe came under fire for hounding Messi following his triumph against France. Following the finals game, he approached the winning team and was a target of a major controversy. He caught the players off guard as they were celebrating their historic win. Additionally, he was pestering athletes for videos and photos.

More on the controversy

Moreover, after hounding football players after the finale, Gokçe flooded his social media account. One picture received a lot of od hate as Messi is seen visibly irritated as he forces him to take a picture. He was also criticized for grabbing Messi’s arm twice. The player looked uncomfortable as he was trying to sidestep the undesirable attention. Another video where he snatched the trophy from Christian Romero’s son received a lot of criticism. On Thursday, following the controversy, Gokçe was banned from the US Open Cup. The sporting cup took to Twitter to reveal the news. “Salt Bae is hereby banned from the 2023 US Open Cup final,” they announced.

Moreover, the FIFA World Cup trophy comes with rules and regulations regarding who can touch or hold the coveted trophy. The priceless trophy can only be held by a selected group including heads of state and former winners. “Following a review, FIFA has also been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail Stadium on December 18. The appropriate internal action will be taken,” stated the authority.
