Apple’s iPhone Event: What To Expect From The ‘Surprise and Shine’ Launch

Apple is preparing for one of its biggest product events of the year, and this time the company could break with a tradition that has defined its September launches for more than a decade. The “Surprise and shine” event is scheduled for September 9 at 10 a.m. PT at Apple Park in Cupertino. For viewers in India, the keynote will begin at 10:30 p.m. IST. Apple has officially confirmed the event, but it has not revealed which products will be unveiled. The spotlight is expected to fall on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, along with Apple’s long-rumored first foldable iPhone. The company may also introduce new Apple Watch and AirPods models.

Here’s what could appear on stage and what remains uncertain.

When is Apple’s September 2026 event?

Apple’s “Surprise and shine” keynote will take place on Wednesday, September 9, at 10 a.m. PT.

That translates to 1 p.m. ET and 10:30 p.m. IST on September 9.

The event will be streamed through Apple’s website and Apple TV, with major technology outlets also carrying live coverage. Apple has officially confirmed the date, time and event branding.

Will Apple launch the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max?

That is the safest bet.

Reports indicate that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will headline the event, although Apple has not confirmed their names or specifications.

The Pro is expected to retain a display around 6.3 inches, while the Pro Max could continue with a screen of approximately 6.9 inches.

Rather than dramatically changing the overall phone size, Apple is reportedly focusing on refining the display area, including potentially reducing the space occupied by the Dynamic Island.

What will change on the iPhone 18 Pro?

The biggest upgrades are expected to involve the processor, cameras and internal hardware rather than a complete redesign.

The phones are widely expected to use Apple’s A20 Pro chip, reportedly based on TSMC’s second-generation 2nm manufacturing technology. That could bring improvements in processing performance and energy efficiency, although Apple will provide the definitive specifications during the event.

There are also reports of improved thermal management, camera changes and a possible mechanical aperture system.

Those details remain leaks until Apple confirms them.

Will the standard iPhone 18 launch tomorrow?

This is one of the biggest changes expected this year.

Apple may not launch the regular iPhone 18 alongside its Pro counterparts. Multiple reports suggest that the company is splitting its iPhone release schedule, with premium models arriving in September and lower-priced models potentially following in spring 2027.

The delayed models could include the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air.

If that happens, Apple’s September event would be unusually concentrated on its most expensive smartphones.

Why might Apple delay the regular iPhone 18?

One explanation is the continuing pressure on memory components.

AI data centers are consuming enormous quantities of advanced memory, putting pressure on global semiconductor supply and increasing costs for consumer electronics manufacturers.

Reports suggest Apple may be using a staggered launch partly to manage production constraints and component costs while emphasizing its higher-margin premium devices.

A split launch would also give Apple another opportunity to generate attention and sales later in the year.

Will Apple finally launch a foldable iPhone?

This could be the biggest announcement of the night.

Apple has spent years watching Samsung, Google and other manufacturers build foldable phones. Now, multiple reports indicate that the company is preparing its own book-style foldable, potentially marketed as the iPhone Ultra.

Apple has not officially confirmed the product exists, so the name, specifications and launch timing remain unverified until the keynote.

But the prospect of Apple’s first foldable has made it the event’s biggest wildcard.

What will the foldable iPhone look like?

Leaks suggest a book-style design that opens horizontally into a much larger display.

The rumored outer screen is around 5.3 to 5.5 inches, while the interior display could measure approximately 7.7 to 7.8 inches.

The inner screen is expected to have a squarer aspect ratio of around 4:3, giving the unfolded device a tablet-like shape.

That would put Apple’s design closer to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line than to compact clamshell phones such as the Galaxy Z Flip.

What cameras will the foldable iPhone have?

Reports suggest Apple could use a dual-camera system on the rear of the foldable.

Both the outer display and inner display are also expected to have front-facing cameras for selfies and video calls.

That would allow users to make calls regardless of whether the device is folded or opened.

Camera hardware could ultimately become one of the major differences between the foldable and Apple’s conventional Pro models.

What chip will the foldable iPhone use?

The rumored foldable is also expected to use the A20 Pro processor.

Using the same flagship chip family would make sense if Apple wants the foldable to compete directly with its top-end iPhones rather than position it as a secondary experimental device.

The actual chip configuration, cooling system and battery capacity remain unknown.

How much could the foldable iPhone cost?

This is where Apple’s entry into the category could become especially dramatic.

Industry reports have placed the potential starting price somewhere above $2,000, with some estimates reaching $2,500.

That would make it substantially more expensive than a conventional iPhone Pro Max and put it firmly into the ultra-premium smartphone category.

The eventual price could also reflect the cost of the foldable display, hinge mechanism, specialized components and relatively low initial production volumes.

Will Apple launch new Apple Watch models?

Apple is also expected to refresh its smartwatch lineup.

Reports point to an Apple Watch Series 12 and a new Apple Watch Ultra 4, potentially with revised designs and expanded health and fitness capabilities.

Some reports have also suggested a new ceramic option.

Apple could use the event to emphasize health tracking and Apple Intelligence features across its wearable ecosystem, although none of those details have been formally confirmed.

What about AirPods?

A new generation of AirPods could also appear.

Reports have pointed to AirPods 5, potentially with a heart-rate sensor and other health-related features.

Apple has increasingly turned AirPods into health and computing accessories rather than treating them solely as wireless headphones, so additional sensing capabilities would fit that strategy.

The company has not confirmed whether AirPods will be included in the September 9 presentation.

Will Apple show any smart-home products?

Possibly, although they may receive less attention than the iPhone.

Reports suggest Apple is developing additional smart-home hardware, including an updated HomePod mini and a device sometimes described as a hybrid smart-home hub combining elements of an iPad and HomePod.

Apple has been gradually expanding its smart-home ambitions, particularly as it works to make Siri and Apple Intelligence more useful across connected devices.

However, those products could be saved for another event later this year.

What software will the new iPhones run?

The new iPhones are expected to ship with iOS 27.

Apple Intelligence is likely to remain an important part of the software strategy, particularly as Apple tries to catch up with rivals that have rapidly expanded AI-powered features.

At its June 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple previewed expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities and a new generation of Siri features.

The September event should reveal which of those features make their way into the new iPhone hardware.

How can you watch Apple’s event in India?

Apple will stream the event online through its official website and Apple TV.

The keynote begins at 10:30 p.m. IST on September 9, making it a late-evening event for viewers in India.

Apple has also historically streamed major launches on YouTube, but the company’s official event page is the most direct source for the livestream.

What makes this iPhone launch different?

The product lineup could be the most unusual part.

Instead of unveiling a standard iPhone alongside the Pro versions and then selling them together, Apple appears poised to concentrate its fall launch on premium devices.

At the same time, the possible arrival of a foldable iPhone would give the company an entirely new product category.

That combination would make September 9 less of a routine annual iPhone refresh and more of a strategic reset for Apple’s smartphone business.

What is confirmed and what is still a rumor?

Apple has officially confirmed only the event itself, its “Surprise and shine” branding, and its September 9 timing.

The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and foldable iPhone remain reported expectations rather than products Apple has formally announced.

Likewise, rumored specifications such as the A20 Pro chip, screen dimensions, camera layouts and foldable design should be treated as leaks until Apple executives put them on the screen.

That distinction matters because Apple’s September keynote is precisely where speculation meets hardware.

By tomorrow night, the rumor mill will either be vindicated or spectacularly wrong.
