According to Forbes, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, plans to create a school and, eventually, a university in Texas. According to tax records, Mr Musk has donated $100 million to a nonprofit that aims to open a school. According to the petition, the program will be “focused on teaching in STEM subjects” with an initial enrollment of roughly 50 students. The class will be “dedicated to education at the highest levels,” according to the statement. According to Forbes, The Foundation will pursue accreditation from the Georgia-based Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and tax-exempt status.
It doesn’t provide details about the school. Still, the university will employ “experienced faculty” and have a traditional curriculum backed by hands-on learning experiences including “simulations, case studies, fabrication/design projects and labs.” Last year, Mr. Musk donated $2.2 billion in Tesla stock to the foundation. The proposed school will be supported by tuition, donations, and need-based scholarships. According to the tax filing, the criteria for student selection will be merit. It states that admittance to the institution is not guaranteed to foundation trustees, officers, workers, or their family members.Â

Mr Musk and his representatives have yet to comment on these reports. According to Forbes, Mr. Musk’s net worth is $243.5 billion. He previously expressed interest in starting a school, and in 2014, he opened Ad Astra, a tiny private school for his five children and certain SpaceX colleagues. Mr Musk had clarified in 2015 that Ad Astra doesn’t have any grades and focuses on “aptitudes and abilities” instead.
The tech tycoon has also expressed interest in establishing a new city called Snailbrook near Austin, which will include a school, recreational facilities, and subsidized housing for Tesla, SpaceX, and the Boring Company employees. According to a Wall Street Journal report from earlier this year, Mr Musk owns over 6,000 acres in the Austin area. The publication also stated that Snailbrook is under construction and will require at least 201 inhabitants before it can petition to incorporate, stressing that final approval from a county court will be required.
