Google to buy cybersecurity firm Wiz for $32 Billion in its largest acquisition ever

Google has announced its acquisition of cybersecurity company Wiz for $32 billion in an effort to enhance its cloud computing security amid the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence.

The all-cash deal, unveiled Tuesday, is the largest in Google’s 26-year history and the biggest acquisition of 2025.

Wiz will become part of Google Cloud, strengthening Google’s in-house security capabilities in an AI-driven world, according to statements from both companies.

“Wiz and Google Cloud share the vision that cloud security should be simpler, more accessible, more intelligent, and democratized, allowing more organizations to safely leverage cloud and AI,” Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport wrote in a blog post.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai echoed this sentiment, saying in a statement that Wiz and Google Cloud together “will significantly accelerate improvements in cloud security and multi-cloud capabilities.”

Founded in 2020 and based in New York, Wiz specializes in security tools designed to safeguard data stored in remote cloud environments.

Google has long expressed interest in acquiring Wiz. The final deal announced Tuesday significantly surpasses the $23 billion buyout offer that Wiz reportedly turned down last July in favor of pursuing an initial public offering. However, Rappaport now believes that joining Google will allow Wiz to “innovate even faster.”

Regulatory scrutiny ahead

Industry analysts at Wedbush described Google’s acquisition of Wiz as a strategic move against competitors like Microsoft and Amazon, both of which have heavily invested in cybersecurity. While Google has lagged behind in the cloud computing race, the Wiz deal is expected to “greatly enhance” its standing.

The acquisition is likely to face close examination from antitrust regulators. Although the Trump administration has shown a generally business-friendly stance, it remains wary of large tech mergers.

Federal Trade Commission Chair Andrew Ferguson has reaffirmed a commitment to rigorous scrutiny of mergers and acquisitions, raising concerns about how this $32 billion deal could impact independent cybersecurity vendors and major industry competitors.

Despite these regulatory hurdles, analysts at Wedbush note that the cybersecurity industry is “primed for consolidation,” offering “significant growth potential in this AI-driven era.”

Wiz and Google have assured that Wiz’s cybersecurity tools will continue functioning across all major cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud, in addition to other security partners.

Pending regulatory approval and other standard closing conditions, Google and Wiz anticipate finalizing the deal in 2026.

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, saw its shares drop nearly 5% on Tuesday morning.
