United Airlines crew member sparks chaos over alleged snack theft
A flight attendant caused a major scene aboard a United Airlines flight after accusing a colleague of stealing a snack box and attempting to have them arrested. The incident, reported by View from the Wing, escalated when the accuser carried out what resembled a citizen’s arrest, treating the case as a criminal offense.
Crew dispute turns into airport drama
The confrontation began when one flight attendant noticed a snack box missing from the buy-on-board inventory. After service had ended, the crew member conducted a count and found that only three boxes remained, though there were originally four.
Suspecting theft, the attendant remembered a colleague mentioning that the plane was packed with less food. Convinced of wrongdoing, she contacted the captain and requested that a supervisor meet the flight at the gate.
Despite all passengers disembarking, the supervisor was initially absent. The accusing flight attendant then ordered others not to move or touch any of their baggage while they waited.
Suspected crew member was stopped and searched
The accused attendant attempted to collect their bag and exit the plane. However, the attendant told View From The Wing that Inspector Javert blocked their way. Soon, a supervisor arrived and checked their bag.
Eventually, a supervisor arrived and conducted a bag search. To the accuser’s surprise, there was no snack box in the suspect’s belongings.
Fallout from false accusation
The flight attendant who initiated the arrest attempt was later suspended for assault and unlawful detention. Airline policy prohibits staff from taking company items, including snacks, without proper authorization. Such cases are typically addressed by filing a report and launching an internal investigation.
However, the aggressive response, involving physical obstruction and an attempted arrest over a missing snack box, has sparked shock and criticism.
