The news of Michael Jackson’s death on June 25, 2009, shocked the whole world. As per the New York Post, the King of Pop was found unresponsive in his home in Los Angeles after suffering cardiac arrest due to anesthetic propofol. The drug was reported to be routinely administered by Dr. Conrad Murray, his physician. They ruled it a homicide and Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Murray landed a four-year prison sentence, however, he only served two.‘TMZ Investigates: Who Really Killed Michael Jackson’ is a new documentary due on Fox next month. It suggests that while Murray was ultimately blamed, Jackson had been abusing drugs in alarming doses throughout his life. He was enabled by an array of doctors who were never jailed.
“It’s a lot more complicated than just: Dr. Murray was at his bedside when he died,” stated Orlando Martinez. Martinez is an LAPD detective assigned to the case following the death of Michael Jackson. “Circumstances had been leading up to his death for years, and all of these different medical professionals had allowed Michael to dictate his terms, get the medicines he wanted when he wanted them, where he wanted them. All of them are the reason why he’s dead today,” explained Martinez. As per Ed Winter, the star was taking ‘Gatorade’-size boddles of propofol at the time of his death. Winter is the assistant chief coroner for LA County. The medical community in several ways had added to his substance obsession and abuse. Murray had previously revealed propofol “was the only way he could go to sleep, especially when he was getting ready for a tour”.
What does the new documentary reveal?
According to the documentary, Jackson was hooked on several drugs throughout his career. Hollywood dermatologist, Arnold Klein had also confessed to TMZ Executive Producer Harvey Levin about dishing out Demerol, an opioid along with several others to the superstar in a 2009 interview. According to Klein, it was a routine for Jackson to get high at Klein’s office on Demerol “for hours at a time”. The documentary reveals that their relationship progressed into a friendship from that of the one between a doctor and a patient. Klein allegedly had fraudulent documents on MJ. Winter revealed MJ created 19 aliases to collect various drugs. Klien had a special book to note which prescriptions went to which of the fake identities.
However, things took a turn for the worse in 2009 as Jackson was getting ready for his ‘This Is It’ tour. His behavior was a worry for Kenny Ortega, the director. There are strong signs of paranoia, anxiety, and obsessive-like behavior. I think the very best thing we can do is get a top psychiatrist in. And evaluate him ASAP,” wrote Ortega in an email. According to a New York Post article, Jackson had rehearsed before his death. Ultimately, this also added up as a factor in his death. “We knew that multiple doctors were doing what Dr. Murray had done. And that they had done it over years,” stated Martinez. Pointing to the fact that Murray was suffering the consequences that were not just his own doing.
