According to a new report, Marvel Studios has officially changed the title of Avengers 5, formerly known as The Kang Dynasty.
Following his appearance in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Kang the Conqueror actor Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault, prompting Marvel Studios to part ways with him despite Kang being positioned as the MCU’s next big bad.
Majors made another appearance in Loki Season 2. After the Disney+ series was released, many fans wondered how Kang would fit into the larger picture of the MCU going forward, especially since the character’s name appears in the title of the next Avengers film.

Many people questioned the nature of Avengers 5 in general, given that it was designed to focus so heavily on Majors and his character.
According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Avengers 5 will change its title from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty to something else after Marvel Studios parted ways with Jonathan Majors and decided not to focus as much on his character, Kang the Conqueror.
Neither the report nor Marvel Studios commented on what the next Avengers film might be called, but THR did reveal that Marvel executives considered changing the title of Avengers 5 before Majors was found guilty and convicted.
This was due to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s underwhelming box office performance, which earned only $476 million globally.
Avengers 5 will not be released until 2026, leaving a seven-year gap between it and the previous Avengers title, Endgame.
The next major team-up film starring all of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was already critical to the MCU due to the time gap alone. It will face the daunting task of bringing together everything that has happened since Endgame, which will be a lot by the time Avengers 5 arrives.
However, Avengers 5 is more important than ever.
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania did not perform as well as Marvel Studios had hoped, and other recent Phase 5 projects had similar box office results.
No, the MCU is not dead or dying, and it remains by far the most successful film franchise in the world, but Avengers 5 has the potential to cement its future and revitalize the fanbase.

Marvel Studios even named Avengers 5 the second most important project of the future, trailing only Deadpool 3, though there is a strong case that the former is far more important than the latter, particularly in the short term.
That being said, the title of Avengers 5 may be the least important aspect of the film, especially at this point, and fans may not know what it will officially be called until it is nearing release.
Dropping the title completely suggests that Marvel is going back to basics and making a film worthy of the Avengers name.
The decision also almost confirms that Marvel Studios will take a different direction than Kang the Conqueror, and oddly enough, now appears to be as good a time as ever, given the MCU’s many new faces, actors, and elements.
Avengers 5 is set to release in theaters on May 1, 2026.
