Britney Spears: Jamie Spears agrees to step down as estate conservator

James Spears, the father of Britney Spears is finally stepping down as her conservator which let him control her money and life for 13 years. However, his departure is not forthcoming. But, it is a major victory for Britney Spears and another step toward justice” according to Britney’s lawyers.

All about James Spears’ legal filing

James Spears filed a legal document stating that he will step down from the post although there are no grounds for it. He agreed to step down after ‘lingering issues’ are fixed. Additionally, it does not specify a timeline for his exit from helping in overseeing his daughter’s finances. “Mr. Spears continues to serve dutifully, and he should not be suspended or removed, and certainly not based on false allegations,” stated the filing. “Mr. Spears is willing to step down when the time is right, but the transition needs to be orderly and includes a resolution of matters pending before the Court,” it states.

Additionally, the documents state that James Spear is the ‘unremitting target of unjustified attacks’ but, ‘he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests. While he says that he will fight the petition t force him out, he agrees to work with his daughter and her attorney, Mathew Rosengart. He also released that he was planning to give up the role when Britney hired the attorney in June.

The conservatorship began in 2008 when James oversaw and started maintaining Britney’s money and personal affairs. However, he stepped down as the conservator of her person but, continued to control her finances. “This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good. I deserve to have a life,” said Britney in June.

She called the conservatorship abusive in numerous instances. According to her, she was required to use an intrauterine birth control device, not get married or have a child. She was also forced to take medication against her will. In addition, she was also stopped from riding in her boyfriend’s car without supervision. (Phentermine)

“We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed. It is vindication for Britney,” stated Rosengart.“We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter’s estate, and I look forward to taking Mr. Spears’s sworn deposition shortly,” he added.
