Cardi B to host American Music Awards

Rapper Cardi B will be hosting American Music Awards 2021. Cardi B will “bring her contagious enthusiasm” to the award presentation, according to executive producer Jesse Collins.

“She will excite the viewers, push the limits and deliver a show that will be remembered forever,” Collins says. In a statement, Cardi B reacts to the news.”When I received the invite to host the AMAs, I was so excited,” she says, adding she is “ready” to bring her “personality” to the AMAs stage. 

In her career, the rapper has already won five AMAs and has attended the award presentation numerous times. In terms of the AMAs, this is the fifth year in a row that a Black musician has been announced as the show’s host. Other black artists that have been hosts are Tracee Ellis Ross, R&B star Ciara and actress Taraji P. Henson.

The AMAs adds new categories this year. It includes favourite trending song, favourite gospel artist and favourite Latin duo or group.

Hammer, Will Smith, Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, Sean Combs and Pitbull, who hosted the show in its previous years. Olivia Rodrigo is the most nominated artist this year, with seven, including artist of the year and new artist of the year.

The Weeknd, a five-time winner, has six nominations and will compete for artist of the year against BTS, Ariana Grande, Drake, and Taylor Swift. Bad Bunny, a reggaeton star, R&B newcomer Giveon, and Doja Cat each got five nominations. Rodrigo joins Giveon, 24KGoldn, Masked Wolf, and The Kid LAROI in the category of the new artist of the year. The 2021 American Music Awards will air live on November 21 at 8 pm EST or 5.30 am IST.
