Scream actress Melissa Barrera dropped from next film over support for Palestine

Melissa Barrera has been let go from the cast of Scream 7. Previously, it was rumored that the actress was dropped from the production due to her loud support for the Palestinian cause, but Spyglass Media Group (banner behind Scream 7) has acknowledged that her posts were construed as antisemitic, and so she was dropped from the schedule. According to Variety, a representative for Spyglass said, “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

Melissa posted a post accusing Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing”

Melissa Barrera spoke on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. It all started on October 7, when Hamas members attacked festival-goers and several other civilians in an Israeli city near the Gaza border. In return, Israel has launched an all-out offensive, bombing every location in Gaza.

Melissa posted a post accusing Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing.” Another of her posts, from Jewish Currents magazine, is about twisting “the Holocaust to benefit Israel’s arms industry.” Following these posts, the production reportedly severed connections with the actress. Melissa Barrera was slated to be the lead in the upcoming Scream movie. She played the lead in the franchise’s fifth and sixth features.
