Band dissolves following accusations of theft and unauthorized photo leaks

New Jersey-based hardcore rock band Gel has officially disbanded following allegations against guitarist Anthony Webster. The group announced their abrupt breakup in a social media statement, citing Webster’s “heinous acts” that caused “irreparable damage” to the band and its members.

Allegations of financial misconduct and misuse of funds

The band alleged that Webster, who had sole access to the group’s bank account, stole tens of thousands of dollars. He is accused of using the money to cover personal expenses, including rent, food, and a substantial number of OnlyFans subscriptions. Additionally, suspicious CashApp transactions were noted, further raising concerns about his financial actions.

Unauthorized distribution of private images

In a further breach of trust, Webster allegedly leaked nude photos of his bandmates on Reddit. The band claims that he failed to cover his tracks, leading to his actions being uncovered. The motive behind the alleged leaks remains unclear.

The band equated their experience with Webster to being in an abusive relationship, stating that they remained committed to the project despite ongoing issues. “It’s not so easy to just give something up that you care so much about, especially with external pressures from organizations and people who were counting on us,” the group stated.

Cancellation of scheduled performances and impact on the music scene

Gel, which was formed in 2018 as a side project of the band Sick S–t, had just completed a tour in Australia before the breakup. They were set to perform at major festivals, including a highly anticipated set at Coachella. The split has led to lineup changes for other bands, with upcoming tour appearances needing to be adjusted.

The band expressed regret over the situation, offering apologies to fans and those affected. “We are so sorry that we have to end it this way. Thank you to our friends and fans for always being there for us. Take care of each other, and love your friends,” they wrote in their farewell message.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Gel’s impact on the hardcore music scene remains significant. Their planned tours with Spiritbox, Loathe, and Dying Wish will continue without them, and their European tour, where they were slated to open for Danish band Volbeat, will proceed with modifications to the lineup.
